The Love Kitchen (LK) began operations in 1985 and is dedicated to providing a hot nutritious meal five days a week to the poor and homeless in the White Mountain community in northeastern Arizona. In addition, the LK provides meals and snacks each school day for needy kids through the Head Start program in the area.
In cooperation with other agencies in the area, the LK distributes food boxes to needy families (each food box contains enough food to provide for a family of four for a week). Aided by many local volunteers from both civic and religious groups in the area, the staff was able to provide almost 20,000 meals in 2006 including food boxes.
THE THRIFT STORE
The thrift store is located in the White Mountain area of northeastern Arizona. It is used to support our Love Kitchen in Pinetop, Arizona. Although the store's profits benefit the hungry in Pinetop, those who work and shop there are blessed, too: the store provides good quality used merchandise at affordable prices, and those who feel the call to serve the less fortunate have a unique opportunity to help.
The store is managed by one full-time employee, several part-time employees, community service workers, and local volunteers.
