Laura Cota started Wa' Ta-lus Kuateí (Big House Kuimaí) Children's Home to help her dying tribe (Kuimaí) and care for some of the seriously ill children who do not have access to medical care. During the school year, she generally has only fifteen children living at the home, but during the summer months she takes in as many as thirty in order to take care of their needs. She is working on translating the Bible into her native Kuimaí language and gives classes to people of her tribe who do not know their language in order to preserve it.
