The work of ministry teams in Thailand began as a result of the need to help street children of the city who live most of their young lives at risk, ranging from simple but life-hindering neglect to the more dangerous potential of being caught up in the life-threatening environment of crime, drugs, and sexual abuse that surrounds them. Currently it is estimated that 200,000 to 300,000 children are involved in prostitution and close to 5 million are abused within the realm of child labor.
