India is home to millions of people and many of them live in conditions of extreme poverty. Key development indicators, such as those related to public health or literacy, are among the lowest in the world. And as it is in much of the world, it is the children who suffer most from poverty. Thousands live on the streets. Life can be even more difficult for girls because they are viewed as lesser citizens and education is usually not an option.
